Saucer- 14cm in diameter

Painted with a botanical study of "Virgin's Bower"

apart from a small glued break to the rim of the basket

Raised on lion's head claw feet

Decorated with the famously austere pale colours used with these very early Derby models

A fine pair of 18th century

who worked from 1768-1802

with trailing foliate garlands

but it was Rowlandson who produced a series of such cartoons and created the character of Dr Syntax
